Northern Light in Norway

Arrive at Alta Airport via Oslo, transferring to your hotel in the evening.

Sami family. After breakfast you’ll leave Alta for your two day trip with a Sami family. You’ll travel to their camp by snow mobile. At the camp you’ll meet the family’s reindeers, help them to move the herd, drive a reindeer sled and spend two nights in a lavvu (Sami tent). You’ll gain an insight into Sami cooking and learn how to cook a traditional meal on an open fire. You can also try lasso casting and ice fishing with the family and they’ll teach you the art of joiking too. The camp is located on the Finnmarksvidda mountain plateau where you’ll enjoy fantastic views to the mountains of the Altafjord. The camp isn’t designed for tourists but rather is a way to get to know a Sami family and their way of life tending to the reindeer herd.

Second day with the Sami family.

Alta. You’ll return to Alta and stay overnight in the hotel. Take an optional evening excursion by car to search for the Northern Lights with your guide.

Dog sledding & Ice Hotel. Today you’ll learn how to mush with your eager pack of husky dogs! You’ll drive the sleds in pairs through pine forests following the banks of the Alta river through the Altadalen valley. In the evening you’ll transfer to the Snow Hotel for an overnight experience in your cold chamber. You’ll have dinner at the Hotel’s restaurant before settling in for the night beneath reindeer hide and thermal sleeping bags.

Transfer to the airport and return.
